Zac Brown was born in 1978 in Atlanta, Georgia. Raised on Lake Lanier as the 11th of 12 children, he was brought up by his mother Bettye and stepfather Dr. Jody Moses. Brown's early education took place at Mashburn Elementary School and Lakeview Academy. His musical journey began at the age of eight when he received his mother's guitar and took classical guitar lessons. During weekends, he developed a love for bluegrass music while playing with his father and brother. Brown continued his studies at South Forsyth High School, later moving to Dahlonega and graduating from Lumpkin County High School. Start of the Zac Brown Band
In 2002, Zac Brown formed the Zac Brown Band with drummer Marcus Petruska and bass guitarist Jacob Lawson. Two years later, Zac opened a music club and restaurant with his father in Lake Oconee, Georgia. Following the sale to a developer, Brown purchased a tour bus and dedicated himself to touring full-time. The band's first independent album, "Home Grown," was released during this period, marking the inclusion of violinist and tenor vocalist Jimmy De Martini. In 2005, John Driskell Hopkins joined as bass guitarist, contributing to their first hit single, "Toes." This track featured in their major label debut album, "The Foundation," released in 2008, which housed other hit singles like "Chicken Fried," "Whatever It Is," and "Free."
