What is Carter Beauford's Net Worth?

Carter Beauford is an American musician, drummer, and percussionist with a net worth of $75 million. Beauford amassed his wealth mainly as a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band. He plays the drums and also provides backing vocals for the band.

Early Life

Carter Anthony Beauford was born on November 2, 1957, in Charlottesville, Virginia. At the age of three, his father took him to a Buddy Rich concert, which mesmerized him and sparked his interest in drumming. By the time he was nine years old, Beauford was performing professionally. Known for his ambidextrous playing, he practiced drumming in front of a mirror. He grew up next door to LeRoi Moore, the saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band, and the two were childhood friends.

Career

Beauford started his career with the jazz fusion band Secrets in Richmond, Virginia. Alongside LeRoi Moore, the band's other members included trumpet player John D'Earth, singer Dawn Thompson, bassist Keith Horn, keyboardists Butch Taylor and Dane Bryant, saxophonist Eddie Williams, and guitarist Tim Reynolds. Dave Matthews later approached Beauford and Moore to play on his demo tapes, leading to the formation of the Dave Matthews Band. The band's first official gig was on March 14, 1991, at Trax Nightclub in Charlottesville.

In 1994, they released their debut EP "Recently" followed by their breakthrough studio album "Under the Table and Dreaming," featuring hits like "What Would You Say," "Satellite," and "Ants Marching." The album's success catapulted the band to international fame, earning multiple platinum certifications. Subsequent albums like "Crash," "Before These Crowded Streets," "Everyday," "Busted Stuff," "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King," "Away From the World," and "Come Tomorrow" solidified their position in the music industry. "Come Tomorrow" debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, making DMB the first band to have seven consecutive studio albums debut at #1.

In a Rolling Stone reader's poll in 2010, he was ranked as one of the greatest drummers of all time. Beauford has won awards from the Modern Drummer Readers Poll including Best Pop Drummer and Best Recorded Performance in 2013. He also provides backing vocals for popular Dave Matthews Band songs.

Beauford contributed to the soundtrack of the 2003 movie "The Fighting Temptations" and was credited as the writer, producer, and performer of the song "I Won't Quit (Till I Get Home)." In 2020, though the Dave Matthews Band was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they were not inducted despite strong fan support.

In a 2020 Drum Magazine article, Beauford was recognized as one of the most influential drummers of the 1990s, praised for his technical skill and effortless command of his instrument.

Personal Life

Carter Beauford is known for his vibrant smile and often wears local team jerseys during concerts. Before his music career took off, he was a history teacher. Though he maintains a private life, it's known that he has been married twice and has three children: Brianna Simone Beauford from his first marriage, and Nadja Angelique Beauford and Marcus Carrington Beauford from his second marriage to Karen Beauford.

During the band's winter hiatus in 2003, Beauford and former touring keyboardist Butch Taylor wrote scores for films and television.
