What is Tom Coughlin's Net Worth and Salary?

Tom Coughlin is an American former professional football coach and executive with a net worth of $16 million. As the head coach of the New York Giants, his salary was $7 million. He coached the Giants from 2004 to 2015, leading them to two Super Bowl victories, both against the New England Patriots (Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI).

Early Life

Thomas Richard Coughlin was born on August 31, 1946, in Waterloo, New York. He played both football and basketball in high school, once facing Jim Boeheim of Lyons High School in a basketball game. Admiring Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis, Coughlin followed in Davis's footsteps to Syracuse University. At Syracuse, Coughlin was a three-year letter-winner on the football team under Hall of Fame coach Ben Schwartzwalder and set a single-season pass receiving record in 1967. Jim Boeheim became his residence advisor during his senior year. Coughlin remained at Syracuse to obtain his master's degree while working as a graduate assistant after graduating.

Coaching Career

Tom Coughlin started his coaching career in the early 1970s at the collegiate level. He began at Rochester Institute of Technology, then moved to Syracuse University, and finally to Boston College. After two seasons at Boston College, he became the wide receivers' coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, and subsequently moved to the Green Bay Packers, returned to Boston College, and later became the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 1995 to 2002.

Coughlin's initial five seasons with the Jaguars were highly successful, reaching the AFC Championship game twice and earning him the NFL Coach of the Year title in 1996. However, the later seasons saw decline, and he was eventually released from his position. In 2004, he took over as head coach for the New York Giants, experiencing a career with both highs and lows but ultimately leading the team to two Super Bowl Championships against the New England Patriots.

Following his tenure as head coach of the Giants, Coughlin was appointed senior advisor to the NFL's football operations department. In November 2016, he was inducted into the Giants' Ring of Honor during halftime of a game between the Giants and Bengals at MetLife Stadium. He later returned to Jacksonville as executive vice president of football operations.

Dedicated to community service, Coughlin established the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation in 1996 while coaching at Jacksonville to support children with leukemia and other cancers, providing both emotional and financial assistance. Named after Jay McGillis, a Boston College player who died from leukemia, the foundation has helped over 5,000 families and provided more than $13 million in aid.

In recognition of his contributions to the US Army community while head coach of the New York Giants, he received the Outstanding Civilian Service Award in 2012.
