Roberto Alomar signed with the San Diego Padres at age 17, beginning his professional journey with the team's Class-A affiliate in Charleston. He achieved notable success early, winning the California League batting title with a .346 average in 1986 while playing for the Reno Padres. Alomar made his major league debut on April 22, 1988, against the Houston Astros and earned his first All-Star selection in 1990.
On December 5, 1990, Alomar and Joe Carter were traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Fred McGriff and Tony Fernández. Serving the Blue Jays until 1995, he consistently excelled, earning All-Star selections and Gold Glove Awards each season. Subsequent stints included signing with the Baltimore Orioles (1995-1998) and the Cleveland Indians (1999-2001), where he enjoyed some of his best seasons. Alomar completed his career with the New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, and Arizona Diamondbacks, ultimately retiring during spring training in 2005.
