Crawford was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with the 52nd overall selection in the 1999 MLB Draft. He quickly made a name for himself in the minor leagues, earning the International League Rookie of the Year award with the AAA Durham Bulls. He made his major league debut in 2002 and was named the team's Most Outstanding Rookie. Crawford spent nine stellar years with the Rays, leading the American League in stolen bases four times (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007), earning four All-Star selections (2004, 2007, 2009, 2010), and winning both the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Awards in 2010. He tied the MLB record with six stolen bases in a single game and was named the All-Star Game MVP in 2009.
