Early Life and Education
Born Robert Muse Bass in 1947 to a wealthy family, he earned a Bachelor's degree from Yale University and a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University.
Business Ventures
Bass began his career at Bass Brothers Enterprises, later working independently through his own company, the Robert M. Bass Group, which became Keystone Inc. His investment strategy of initially losing money to generate future gains proved highly successful.
In 1994, Bass initiated the development of supersonic corporate jets at Aerion Corporation. In the early 1990s, he founded Oak Hill, an investment company that has evolved into four operations managing assets exceeding $35 billion. In 2012, he acquired a luxury apartment at 834 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for $42 million.
Philanthropy
Bass, along with his wife, has made numerous contributions to philanthropic causes. Their latest donation was $50 million to Duke University to support Bass Connections, an initiative encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration and studies.
