Quinta Brunson is an American actress, writer, comedian, producer, and director with a net worth of $9 million. She is renowned for creating, writing, executive producing, and starring in the ABC sitcom Abbott Elementary (2021–present), a role that earned her a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 2022 and a Primetime Emmy for Lead Actress – Comedy Series in 2024.
Brunson also created, wrote, produced, and starred in the web series Broke (2016) and Quinta vs. Everything (2017–2018) alongside the go90 series Up for Adoption (2017). She directed Broke and voiced Blazor Wulf on the Adult Swim series Lazor Wulf (2019–2021), where she also wrote two episodes. Additionally, she produced the Wash and Go Tutorial – Spike Lee episode of the BuzzFeed Studios series Hair Flick (2019).
Quinta has over 25 acting credits, including the films An American Pickle (2020) and As of Yet (2021), and the TV series Single Parents (2018–2020), A Black Lady Sketch Show (2019; 2022), and Miracle Workers (2021). When Abbott Elementary qualifies for syndication, Quinta's net worth is expected to rise significantly. As the show's creator, producer, and star, she owns a substantial portion of the show's backend equity points, potentially up to 20%. If the show generates $500 million in syndication royalties within its first decade, Quinta could earn up to $50 million. Additionally, she will receive residuals whenever the show re-airs in syndication.
In August 2022, Quinta signed a multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group. While the financial terms were undisclosed, this deal ensures Quinta will remain with Warner Bros. to create new shows and continue her work on Abbott Elementary.
Quinta's growing fame has increased her ability to secure lucrative endorsement deals. She became the face of OLAY in September 2022, signed a deal with J. Crew in April 2023, and starred in a TurboTax Super Bowl commercial in February 2024.
Quinta Brunson was born on December 21, 1989, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Rick and Norma Jean Brunson and grew up in a Jehovah's Witness household. She has older siblings named Kalid, Nija (better known as Jia), Kiyana, and Kwei. Quinta credits her mother, a dedicated kindergarten teacher, for inspiring her to create Abbott Elementary. Energetic as a child, she took ballet and aerobics classes. Quinta attended the Charter High School for Architecture & Design and developed a passion for comedy during her teenage years, which led her to take an improv class. She later attended Temple University but dropped out to pursue a career in comedy.
Quinta gained popularity in 2014 through her comedic Instagram videos, particularly the viral series Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date. She eventually worked at BuzzFeed Video as a producer and sold the series Broke and Up for Adoption to YouTube Red and go90, respectively. Channing Dungey, the studio's chairman, praised Quinta as a "tour de force and a powerhouse talent".
