Raised in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, he has an older sister named Nancy. At Rolling Meadows High School, Gary starred as Snoopy in the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." He later attended Illinois State University, where his classmates included future stars John Malkovich and Laurie Metcalf.
Career
In 1983, Gary Cole launched his TV career with "Heart of Steel". By 1985, he was a member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
