Daron Oshay "Mookie" Blaylock was born on March 20, 1967, in Garland, Texas. He played basketball at Midland College and the University of Oklahoma, where he excelled as a point guard and defensive stopper, leading the Sooners to the NCAA title game in 1988.

Career

Selected 12th overall in the 1989 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets, Mookie Blaylock quickly made his presence felt. After three years with the Nets, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks, where he truly shone under coach Lenny Wilkens. As a Hawk, he became the franchise leader in career three-point field goals and steals. He led the NBA in steals in consecutive seasons (1996-97, 1997-98), joining elite players like Magic Johnson, Allen Iverson, and Chris Paul. In the 1996-97 season, he led the league in three-point attempts and was second in three-pointers made.
