What is Moisés Alou's Net Worth?

Moisés Alou is a Dominican-American retired professional baseball player who has a net worth of $40 million. Over 17 years, he played for seven MLB teams and earned his place as one of the game's best hitters and outfielders.

Early Life

Moisés Rojas-Alou Beltré was born on July 3, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia, into a prominent baseball family. Son of former MLB outfielder and manager Felipe Alou, and nephew to Jesus and Matty Alou, Moisés ironically showed more interest in basketball during his youth. He didn't engage in organized baseball until attending Canada College in Redwood City, California, at age 18, where baseball scouts noticed his talent.

MLB Career

Moisés Alou's MLB career spanned 17 seasons, playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins, Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, and New York Mets, totaling 1,942 career games. Notably managed by his father during his early Montreal Expos years and later with the Giants, Alou achieved a .303 batting average, 2,134 hits, 421 doubles, 332 home runs, 1,287 RBIs, and 102 stolen bases, solidifying his status as a five-tool player. Alou was known for batting without gloves, attributing his toughened hands to urinating on them during the season.

Alou earned six All-Star appearances (1994, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2005) and two Silver Slugger Awards (1994, 1998). He was part of the 1997 World Series Champion team, the Florida Marlins, who defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games.

Through his MLB career, Moisés Alou earned over $88.3 million in salary alone.

Personal Life

Alou and his wife Austria have three sons: Kirby, Percio, and Moises Jr. Known as a prankster among teammates, Alou also retired from professional baseball in 2009 after the World Baseball Classic. Among a select group of players, including Ken Griffey Jr. and Prince Fielder, Alou and his father both hit 20 home runs in an MLB season.
