Born Jemaine Atea Mahana Clement on January 10, 1974, in Masterton, New Zealand, he spent his early years in the Wairarapa area. Clement, who has Māori heritage, graduated from Makoura College and later moved to Wellington to study film and drama at Victoria University. There, he met Taika Waititi, and they formed the comedy troupes The Humourbeasts and So You're a Man. Along with Bret McKenzie, they gained recognition for their stage show "The Untold Tales of Maui," which won the prestigious Billy T Award in 2004.

Music Career

Flight of the Conchords was established in 1998. Their first television appearance was on "Newtown Salad" in May 2000. They released their debut live album "Folk the World Tour" in 2002, followed by the EP "The Distant Future" in 2007. Their self-titled studio album released in 2008 achieved double Platinum status in New Zealand and topped several U.S. charts.
