Upon arrival in Islamabad, Aude took possession of luggage from the businessmen he had met. However, during baggage inspection at Islamabad International Airport, authorities discovered 3.6 kilograms of opium in his luggage. In 2003, Aude was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison by a Pakistani court. He was incarcerated in a Rawalpindi prison.
Release and Aftermath
Thanks to the intervention of the American government, which believed Aude was innocent and unaware that he was smuggling opium, he was released after serving two years and ten months of his sentence.
