Cher Conservatorship
In December 2023, Cher reportedly filed for a conservatorship over Elijah, claiming he was unable to manage his financial resources due to severe mental health and substance issues. The filing detailed Elijah's substantial earnings from a trust set up by his late father, Gregg Allman, stating the money would be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets and putting his life at risk. Elijah earns $30,000 quarterly, totaling $120,000 annually, from his father's trust fund. In an April 2024 response, Elijah contested his mother’s claims:
"I have struggled with addiction but I am not mentally ill. The absence of evidence of the concerns raised in the petition over the last four months is evidence that I have control over my faculties. I know my mother's actions are meant to help me, but I do not need this help. While I wish to believe that my mother wants the best for me, I have personal knowledge that she does not manage her own finances. I therefore have grave concerns about this court permitting her to manage any of mine."
Early Life and Education
Elijah Blue Allman was born on July 10, 1976, in Los Angeles, California, to singer Cher and her second husband, musician and singer-songwriter Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. He is the half-brother of Chaz Bono through his mother, and the half-brother of Delilah, Michael, Layla, and Devon through his father. Allman developed a passion for the guitar early in life; while on tour with his mother at age 13, he received his first guitar from KISS bassist Gene Simmons. He attended Hyde School in Bath, Maine, graduating in 1994.
Deadsy
Allman first gained recognition as the lead vocalist, lyricist, and guitarist of the industrial metal band Deadsy, which he formed in 1995 with drummer Alec Puro and producer Josh Abraham. He later added his friend Renn Hawkey on keyboards and Jay Gordon on bass. Initially signed to Sire Records, Deadsy recorded its debut album in 1996, but it was pulled from commercial release after some promotional versions were issued. In 1998, Craig Riker joined as the bassist, and the band worked on their album "Commencement," released in 2002 by DreamWorks Records. Though it received mixed reviews and was a commercial disappointment, Deadsy toured the United States.
Deadsy signed with Immortal Records in 2006 and released their third album, "Phantasmagore." To promote it, they played on the Family Values Tour, Lollapalooza, and co-headlined a tour with the Deftones. The band went on hiatus in early 2007, and Allman launched a solo project, Elijah Blue and the Trapezoids, releasing demos on Myspace. Deadsy reformed in late 2018, playing a semi-acoustic show at San Quentin State Prison in San Francisco. In 2023, it was announced that Renn Hawkey had left the band.
Featured Appearances
Allman has appeared as a featured artist on various tracks by other musicians. In the late 1990s, he contributed vocals and keyboards to songs by the industrial rock band Orgy and the nu-metal band Coal Chamber. He also provided additional vocals on "Personal Space Invader" by Sugar Ray. Allman reunited with Orgy for their 2000 album "Vapor Transmission" and lent vocals to the song "The Spectrum." In 2002, he played guitar and bass on "Welcome to the Universe" from Thirty Seconds to Mars' debut album. Additionally, Allman contributed vocals to Korn's cover of "Love My Way" and to Mickey Avalon's song "Mickey's Girl."
