Tragically, his youngest brother, Tajh, died in 1996 after falling out of a hotel window in Caracas, Venezuela. Ariza attended Westchester High School in Los Angeles, where he was part of the team that won the California State championship during his junior year. Career
In the 2004 NBA Draft, Ariza was the 43rd overall pick by the New York Knicks. As a rookie, he averaged 5.9 points per game in 80 games. In 2006, he was traded to the Orlando Magic, where he played 57 games in the 2006–2007 season, averaging 8.9 points per game. In 2007, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers but missed part of the season due to a foot injury. He returned during the Western Conference Finals and contributed to the team reaching the NBA Finals, although they lost to the Boston Celtics.
