Early Life

Tom Colicchio was born on August 15, 1962, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He is the son of Beverly Ann and Thomas Patrick, both of Italian heritage. Tom grew up alongside his older brother, Michael, and his younger brother, Philip John. His father worked as a union organizer. Colicchio attended Elizabeth High School and graduated in 1980.

Career

Determined to become a chef, Colicchio began his culinary journey by climbing the ranks in restaurants. He worked as a sous-chef under the esteemed chef Thomas Keller at Rakel in the mid-1980s. In July 1994, Colicchio and his business partner, Danny Meyer, opened Gramercy Tavern in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park neighborhood, where Tom served as co-founder, co-owner, and executive chef. Gramercy Tavern was voted the Most Popular Restaurant in New York City in 2003 and 2005. He sold his interest in 2006 to focus on other ventures.

In 2001, Colicchio launched his first Craft restaurant through his group Crafted Hospitality, located south of Gramercy Tavern. In 2002, he opened Craftsteak at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and in 2003, he launched 'wichcraft, a sandwich shop concept.

In 2006, Tom became the head judge for the inaugural season of 'Top Chef,' later taking on the role of main consulting producer for 'Top Chef Masters.' In 2010, he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Programming as the executive producer of 'Top Chef.' Additionally, Tom made cameo appearances in television shows such as 'The Simpsons,' 'The Smurfs,' and 'Billions.'

In 2013, Colicchio appeared in the documentary 'A Place at the Table,' also serving as an executive producer. The film, directed by his wife Lori Silverbush, addresses hunger and food insecurity in the United States. He contributed to the companion book 'A Place at the Table: The Crisis of 49 Million Hungry Americans and How to Solve It.' The film was nominated for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize. In 2015, Tom hosted the reality series 'Best New Restaurant.'

Tom has continued expanding his restaurant portfolio. He currently owns Craft restaurants in New York City and Los Angeles, as well as Craftsteak and Tom Colicchio's Heritage Steak in Las Vegas. In New York, he operates Small Batch in Garden City and 'wichcraft and Temple Court in New York City. Personal Life

Tom married filmmaker Lori Silverbush in 2001. They have two sons, Luka Bodhi (born 2009) and Mateo Lev (born 2011). He also has a son, Dante, from a previous relationship (born 1993).
