Tameka Diane Harris was born on July 14, 1975, in College Park, Georgia. Her mother, Diane Cottle, is Caucasian American, and her father, Charles 'Speedy' Pope, was African American and a member of the R&B group 'The Tams,' achieving chart success in the 1960s.

Career

In 1992, while attending Tri-Cities Performing Arts High School, Tameka performed with the R&B quartet Xscape. They were signed by Jamie Dupri to 'So So Def Recordings.' During her time with Xscape, Tameka contributed to three platinum albums: 'Hummin' Cummin' at 'Cha,' 'Off the Hook,' and 'Traces of My Lipstick.' The group received multiple awards, including two 'Soul Train Music Awards' and the 'A-Town Music Award.'

Despite Xscape disbanding in 1998, Tameka continued to achieve success. She co-wrote TLC's hit 'No Scrubs' with former Xscape member Kandi Burruss, earning a Grammy Award for 'Best R&B Song' in 2000. Together, they also held writing credits for Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You.'
