In 2005, Taylor Armstrong married Russell Armstrong, an investment banker beset by financial ruin following the dot-com crash and post-9/11 economic downturn. They had a child together in 2006. Russell filed for bankruptcy the same year, claiming assets under $50,000 and debts ranging from $1 to $10 million. Their apparent financial hardships and allegations of domestic abuse became public through Taylor's television appearances, culminating in her filing for divorce shortly before Russell's suicide in 2011. Taylor married attorney John Bluher in 2014.

In 2012, Armstrong was renting a 4,800-square-foot home in Beverly Hills for $15,000 a month. She and her daughter lived there for four years. However, when the property was listed for $3.7 million, Taylor announced their intent to move.
