While recovering from a triceps injury, Austin joined Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), where he developed his 'Stone Cold' persona. He debuted in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in January 1996 and quickly rose to fame, winning the 1996 King of the Ring and coining the 'Austin 3:16' catchphrase.
