Early Life

Born on September 9, 1978, in Birmingham, Michigan, Shane Courtney Battier attended Detroit Country Day School. Excelling in basketball, he graduated with a 3.96 GPA. Battier then attended Duke University, where he won every National Player of the Year Award and led the team to a 2001 National Championship. He was also a two-time Academic All-American. Notably, Battier is the first player to receive both the Naismith Prep Player of the Year (1997) and the Naismith College Player of the Year (2001). His jersey has been retired by both his high school and Duke University. Battier graduated with a degree in Religion before entering the NBA Draft.

NBA Career

Shane Battier was the sixth overall pick by the Vancouver Grizzlies in the 2001 NBA Draft. After five years, he was traded to the Houston Rockets and later returned to the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2010-2011 season. In 2011, he joined the Miami Heat alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, contributing to their 2012 NBA Finals victory with 58 points in five games. The following season, the Heat went on a 27-game win streak and clinched another NBA title, with Battier scoring 18 crucial points in Game 7 of the Finals. He announced his retirement in 2014 after helping the Heat reach their fourth consecutive Finals. Battier's career stats include 8,408 points, 4,082 rebounds, and 1,717 assists. Known for his defensive skills, he was a two-time All-Defensive team member and a two-time NBA Champion.
