Early Life

Career

Prince Azim was a patron of the Make A Wish Foundation UK. In 2009, he designed MCM unisex weekend bags and donated the proceeds to charity. He spoke at numerous events promoting respect and understanding for individuals with autism. Prince Azim was also a film producer. In 2014, he executive produced "You're Not You" and subsequently produced "Dark Places" (2015), "Wild Oats" (2016), "The Time of Their Lives" (2017), "The Happy Prince" (2018), and "Hellbent" (2018).

Personal Life

In April 2019, Prince Azim was outed as gay by blogger Perez Hilton. Despite the controversy surrounding Brunei's introduction of Sharia law, the prince remained a highly regarded figure known for his extravagant parties attended by celebrities like Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey. His 30th birthday celebration in 2012 at London's Dorchester Hotel saw guests such as Pamela Anderson and Raquel Welch.

Death

Prince Azim passed away on October 24, 2020, at Jerudong Park Medical Centre after battling an undisclosed illness. The Brunei government declared a seven-day mourning period. Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore, and Singaporean president Halimah Yacob publicly expressed their condolences. Prince Azim was buried at the Royal Mausoleum in Bandar Seri Begawan alongside his grandfather, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III. His brother Prince Mateen later revealed that Azim had succumbed to complications of systemic vasculitis.
