Nick Clegg is a British media executive and former politician with a net worth of $25 million. He served as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Vice-President of Global Affairs and Communications at Facebook, and became the President for Global Affairs at Meta Platforms in 2022.

Early Life

Sir Nicholas William Peter Clegg was born on January 7, 1967, in Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire, England. He is the third of four children of Hermance van den Wall Bake and Nicholas Peter Clegg. Clegg studied at the University of Cambridge, the University of Minnesota, and the College of Europe. Before his political career, he was an award-winning journalist for the Financial Times and worked as a skiing instructor and in a bank office.

Career

Nick Clegg identified as a member of the Liberal Democrats political party. He became a Member of Parliament for Sheffield Hallam in May 2005. From March 2006 until December 2007, Clegg served as Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesman. He then became the Leader of the Liberal Democrats and served as Deputy Prime Minister under Prime Minister David Cameron starting in May 2010. During his tenure, he advocated for reduced taxes, defense spending cuts, electoral reform, and an increased focus on safe environmental practices.

The 2015 general election significantly reduced the party's seats in the House of Commons to eight, leading to Clegg's ousting as Deputy Prime Minister and his resignation as the party leader. He returned to the Liberal Democrat frontbench in 2016 after the Brexit referendum, serving as Spokesperson for Exiting the European Union and for International Trade until June 2017. Following his defeat in the 2017 general election, he moved to the United States and became Vice-President for Global Affairs and Communications at Facebook, appointed by Mark Zuckerberg. In February 2022, Zuckerberg promoted Clegg to President for Global Affairs at Meta Platforms.

Facebook Salary

Nick Clegg reportedly earns a salary of £2.8 million per year, equivalent to about $3.4 million USD. He also received options that could be worth an additional $10-20 million depending on his tenure length and Facebook's stock price.

GQ Magazine Controversy

In March 2008, during an interview with Piers Morgan, Nick Clegg admitted to sleeping with "no more than 30" women. GQ magazine published the comments, which offended some people. Senior Liberal Democrat Members of Parliament defended his comments. Clegg later clarified that his response was taken out of context and over-interpreted.

Personal Life

Nick Clegg married Miriam Gonzalez Durantez from Valladolid, Spain, in September 2000. They have three children together and lived in Atherton, California until August 2022, when Clegg announced his return to London to be closer to his elderly parents.

In December 2018, Nick bought a $9 million mansion in Atherton, California, which he sold for $12.5 million in October 2022. Before selling, he purchased a smaller home in Palo Alto, California, for $2 million, minutes away from Facebook's headquarters. Nick and his wife also own a $4 million home in West London.
