Early Life

Morris Lamont Chestnut was born on January 1, 1969, in Cerritos, California, to Morris Chestnut Sr. and Shirley Chestnut. After graduating from Richard Gahr High School, he studied finance and drama at California State University, Northridge.

Acting Career

Chestnut's debut acting role was in February 1990, playing Jadon in "Freddy's Nightmares". He achieved widespread recognition as Ricky Baker in the 1991 film "Boyz n the Hood." Subsequently, he secured roles in various TV shows and films, including Patti LaBelle’s sitcom "Out All Night."

He starred in Steven Seagal's films "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory," "Half Past Dead," and "Prince of Pistols," portraying the main villain in the latter two.

In 1997, he acted opposite Demi Moore in "G.I. Jane" and played Special Agent Mal Robinson in the TV series "C-16." Chestnut won the Madden Bowl video game competition in 1998. The following year, he starred in "The Best Man," earning an NAACP Image Award nomination.
