Early Life and Education
Mike Comrie was born on September 11, 1980, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Theresa and businessman Bill, co-founder of The Brick. He has an older sister, Cathy, an older brother, Paul, and two younger half-brothers, Eric and Ty, from his father's second marriage. As a youth, Comrie played ice hockey and competed in the 1993 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. He attended Jasper Place High School and the University of Michigan.
Edmonton Oilers, 2001-2003
Comrie was drafted in the third round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. After playing for the Kootenay Ice in the WHL, he joined the Oilers in 2001, quickly becoming a fan favorite and scoring 133 points in 192 games. In the 2003-04 season, a contract dispute led to his departure from the Oilers.
