New Edition
In 1978, singer and songwriter Bobby Brown formed New Edition, which included Bivins, Ricky Bell, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. They gained attention in 1982 at a talent show, which led to recording 'Candy Girl' under the guidance of producer Maurice Starr. The album's success with hits like 'Is This the End,' 'Popcorn Love,' and the title track marked the group's breakthrough. Signing with MCA Records in 1984, they released their second album featuring hits 'Cool it Now' and 'Mr. Telephone Man.' Subsequent albums, including 'All for Love' and the holiday EP 'Christmas All Over the World,' continued their success.
After Bobby Brown's departure in 1985, New Edition recorded 'Under the Blue Moon' and later introduced Johnny Gill for the album 'Heart Break' in 1988. This album became their most commercially successful with hits like 'You're Not My Kind of Girl' and 'N.E. Heartbreak.' Reuniting in 1996, they released 'Home Again,' which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Despite a tumultuous tour, New Edition has reunited multiple times and released their final album 'One Love' in 2004.
