Early Life
Mario Chalmers, born Almario Vernard Chalmers on May 19, 1986, in Anchorage, Alaska, attended Bartlett High School. He was named the 4A State Player of the Year three times, joining notable company with Trajan Langdon. Leading his team to two state championships in 2002 and 2003, Chalmers became a celebrated athlete. In 2004, his team finished as runners-up under his guidance. A five-star recruit from Rivals.com, Chalmers was ranked as the #2 point guard and #12 overall player in the nation in 2005.
NCAA Career
Chalmers was highly sought after by top colleges, ultimately committing to the University of Kansas in 2004. Initially a bench player, he made his way into the starting rotation in January 2006, starting 21 of Kansas's final 22 games as a freshman and averaging 11.5 points per game. Chalmers distinguished himself as only the second freshman in Big 12 history to earn Conference Player of the Week honors, also being named National Freshman of the Week twice.
By his junior year, Chalmers averaged 12.8 points per game, led the team in assists (4.3), and shot 46.8% from the 3-point line. His 97 steals tied the school single-season record. During the 2008 NCAA Championship, Chalmers scored a dramatic three-point shot with 2.1 seconds left, leading Kansas to an overtime victory against the Memphis Tigers. Following this, Chalmers entered the NBA draft in April 2008.

NBA Career
Selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2008 NBA Draft, Chalmers was quickly traded to the Miami Heat. Despite facing adversity early on due to a suspected marijuana incident, which resulted in a $20,000 fine for missing his rookie camp, he set an NBA record with nine steals in his fourth game. Chalmers became a free agent and re-signed with the Heat for the 2011 NBA season, winning his first NBA Championship in 2012 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He continued with the Heat until the 2014-2015 season.
On November 10, 2015, Chalmers was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, making his debut three days later and scoring 11 points against the Portland Trail Blazers. On November 16, 2015, he scored a season-high 29 points in a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unfortunately, a ruptured right Achilles tendon ended his season on March 10, 2016, leading to his release from the Grizzlies.
Real Estate
Before transitioning to European basketball leagues, Chalmers sold his expansive home in Matthews, North Carolina, in 2019. The 11,011-square-foot manor sold for $2.2 million and featured five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms.
Charity Work
