Mario Brescia Cafferata's Net Worth and Business Ventures

Mario Brescia Cafferata, a notable Peruvian billionaire, has amassed a remarkable net worth of $1.8 billion. He is one of the key figures in the elite group of Peruvian billionaires, predominantly due to his significant role in Grupo Brescia. Alongside his brother Pedro, Mario took the reigns of Grupo Brescia after their father, Fortunato Brescia Tassano, passed away in 1951. Under their leadership, the company diversified extensively into several industries such as agriculture, fish products, cement, paint products, explosives, welding, insurance, banking, and mining.

After the Peruvian government nationalized the firm's agricultural companies in 1969 and its fishery assets in 1973, Grupo Brescia resiliently reclaimed its position in the fish products sector. Today, Tecnólogica de Alimentos SA, a subsidiary of Grupo Brescia, is the world's largest producer of fish meal and fish oil.

Further expanding their industrial footprint, Grupo Brescia owns Minsur, a mining subsidiary with various operations across Peru and Brazil. Last year, Minsur launched operations at the Pucamarca gold mine, located along the Peru-Chile border. Additional assets include Exsa, the leading explosives producer in Peru, and Intursa, the country's largest hotel chain. Currently, Mario Brescia Cafferata’s sons inherit 40% ownership of Grupo Brescia, which continues to be the principal source of their wealth.
