Marcus Allen was born on March 26, 1960, in San Diego, California. He is the elder brother of Damon Allen, a quarterback in the Canadian Football League. Allen played football at Abraham Lincoln High School and led his team to victory in the 1977 CIF title game.
Collegiate Career
Allen attended the University of Southern California, playing for the Trojans from 1978 to 1981. Initially a backup, he eventually became the starting tailback, rushing for 2,342 yards in 1981. Allen won the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, and Walter Camp Award during his senior year. He finished his college career with 4,664 rushing yards, 5,232 total yards, and 46 touchdowns.
Los Angeles Raiders
Drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders in 1982, Allen's rookie season was disrupted by a strike, but he still rushed for 697 yards and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
