Larry Carlton Net Worth

Larry Carlton is an American jazz, blues, pop, and rock guitarist with a net worth of $2 million. Born on March 2, 1948, in Torrance, California, Carlton began learning guitar at the age of six under the guidance of Slim Edwards. His high school years saw him develop a deep interest in jazz, heavily influenced by the playing styles of Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, and B.B. King. Additionally, saxophonist John Coltrane made a significant impression on him.

Studio Career and Achievements

Before shifting entirely to a solo career, Carlton became one of the most sought-after studio musicians for over three decades. His extensive catalog includes work on film soundtracks, television themes, and contributions to more than 100 gold albums. During the 1970s and early 1980s, Carlton was a prolific session musician in Los Angeles, participating in up to 500 recordings annually. He has worked with renowned artists such as Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, The Four Tops, Christopher Cross, and Barbra Streisand.

Challenges and Comebacks

In 1988, while working on his electric guitar album 'On Solid Ground,' Carlton survived a traumatic event when he was shot in the throat outside his private studio in California. The injury shattered his vocal cord and caused severe nerve damage. Remarkably, he recovered quickly and completed the album by the end of the year. Carlton continued his electric guitar work and later released 'Kid Gloves,' a commercially successful jazz album. In 1993, he released 'Renegade Gentleman,' featuring harmonica player Terry McMillan on several tracks.

Notable Collaborations and Tours

From 1994 to 1997, Carlton participated in various tours, most notably with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather, and released the collaborative album 'Larry & Lee.' In 1997, he joined Fourplay, replacing guitarist Lee Ritenour. Carlton went on to release several solo albums and even joined Steely Dan as a guest guitarist on a tour in 2009.

Personal Life

In 1987, Larry Carlton married contemporary Christian music artist Michele Pillar. They have two children: Katy Carlton and bass player Travis Carlton.
