Early Life

Keyshia Cole was born Keyshia Myeshia Johnson on October 15, 1981, in Oakland, California. She was adopted by Leon and Yvonne Cole when she was two, and she met her biological father, Virgil Hunter, for the first time at age 34. Keyshia began recording music with MC Hammer at age 12 and was invited to collaborate with Tupac Shakur before his untimely death.

Keyshia got involved with the East Oakland Youth Development Center at age 16 and dropped out of Fremont High School but started working toward her GED in 2015. At 18, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her music career and was eventually signed by Ron Fair of A&M Records.

Career

Keyshia Cole's first single, "Never," was released in 2004, followed by her debut album, "The Way It Is," in 2005, which reached #6 on the "Billboard" 200. Her subsequent albums, "Just like You" and "A Different Me," solidified her status as an R&B powerhouse. Keyshia's singles, such as "I Changed My Mind," "I Should Have Cheated," and "Love," became Platinum hits.

Her second album features collaborations with Lil' Kim and Missy Elliott, while her third album includes posthumous contributions from Tupac Shakur. Keyshia embarked on her first headlining tour in 2009, and her album "Calling All Hearts" in 2010 featured Nicki Minaj.

Keyshia continued her success with "Woman to Woman" in 2012, "Point of No Return" in 2014, and "11:11 Reset" in 2017. Keyshia Cole began a relationship with former NBA player Daniel Gibson in May 2009, and they became engaged on New Year's Day in 2010. They welcomed their son, Daniel Jr., on March 2, 2010, and married in May 2011. The couple's wedding was featured on the BET reality series "Keyshia and Daniel: Family First," which aired in October 2012. They separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2020.

Keyshia began dating Niko Khale in 2018, and they had a son, Tobias, on August 1, 2019, before ending their relationship in October 2020.
