Early Life
Kerry Michael Collins was born on December 30, 1972, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Initially attending Lebanon High School, he transferred to Wilson High School in 1987 to play football, basketball, and baseball. He later enrolled at Penn State University, where he played football under coach Joe Paterno. Collins excelled as an All-American quarterback, winning the Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award, and Sammy Baugh Trophy, and was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in 1994. He led Penn State to a Rose Bowl victory over Oregon and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
NFL Career
Selected as the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, Collins made history as the expansion team’s first pick. In his second year, he led the Panthers to a division title and a conference championship appearance, earning Pro Bowl honors. After a short stint with the New Orleans Saints in 1998, he joined the New York Giants as a free agent. Collins was the Giants' starting quarterback from 1999 to 2003, leading them to a Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl XXXV.
After being released by the Giants in 2004, Collins signed with the Oakland Raiders but experienced a tumultuous period before being cut in 2006. He then joined the Tennessee Titans on a one-year deal, earning a Pro Bowl bid and helping the team achieve a 13-3 record in 2008.
