Career
Karl's mother was a former equestrian, and he received his first horse at the age of 8. For 12 years, he trained under Graeme and Lu Thomas at Willow Tree Farm to become a professional horse rider. Starting his amateur career in 2008, he faced initial setbacks and decided to train with French equestrian Éric Navet, who won a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics in show jumping. Moving to Normandy, France, in 2012, Karl achieved significant success, including four Grand Prix wins in 2014 with horses Basimodo and Jonkheer Z, and victories in the 2007 and 2008 FEI North American Junior Young Rider Championship, and the 2016 SmartPak Grand Prix, among others.

About his career, Karl has said, "The horses kind of tell you when they're ready for what, and I have to take it as they come. Just being out there doing it and seeing progress is what makes me happy."

Personal Life
Karl began dating actress Kaley Cuoco in 2016 after meeting at a horse show. They got engaged on Kaley's 32nd birthday, November 30, 2017. During a 2016 appearance on "The Talk," Cuoco expressed her affection for Cook, stating, "I finally found my horse guy. He's an amazing rider, amazing equestrian, and a great human. We share a passion for horses and dogs. It's been lovely." They married on June 30, 2018, with a 1920s-themed reception that included unicycle riders, stilt walkers, aerialists, and fire breathers.
In September 2021, Cook and Cuoco announced their separation, stating, "Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions... There is no anger or animosity." Cuoco reportedly has an "ironclad prenup" to protect her assets. Besides his equestrian career, Karl enjoys photography and woodworking. He told Phelps Sports in 2010, "I make bowls, cups, tables, and many other items on a wood lathe. I call it 'lazy turning.'"
