Early Life

Kari Elizabeth Byron was born on December 18, 1974, in Santa Clara County, California. She grew up with her mother Sue, father Dennis, and younger sister Summer. Kari attended Los Gatos High School and later enrolled at San Francisco State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in film and sculpture in 1998. Post-graduation, she spent a year backpacking through Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, India, and other destinations before returning to San Francisco to pursue a career as a sculptor.

Career

Determined to land a job with M5 Industries, an effects workshop, Byron's persistence paid off when she was invited to join the workshop. She was later asked to be a part of the "MythBusters" television series, forming the "Build Team" along with Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci. This second team of mythbusters investigated their own set of myths. After leaving "MythBusters" in 2014, they reunited for the 2016 series "White Rabbit Project," exploring intriguing events from pop culture, science, and history.

Kari hosted the "Large, Dangerous Rocket Ships" specials on the Science Channel in 2010 and 2011 and appeared on "Sons of Guns" on the Discovery Channel in 2012. From 2011 to 2014, she and Tory Belleci co-hosted the Punkin Chunkin coverage on the Science Channel, and they also co-hosted the Travel Channel series "Thrill Factor" in 2015. In 2021, Kari began hosting "Crash Test World," focusing on how different elements of history, technology, and culture contribute to making the world a better place.
