In 1993, Xscape released their debut album 'Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha,' reaching number three on the R&B charts and producing two top-10 singles. Their follow-up albums 'Off the Hook' (1995) and 'Traces of My Lipstick' (1998) also achieved commercial success. LaTocha Scott left to pursue a solo career, and the group went on hiatus. They briefly reunited to contribute to the soundtracks of 'Hardball' and 'Big Momma's House' before going on hiatus again until 2005.

Burruss also made a name for herself as a songwriter, penning hits like TLC's 'No Scrubs' and Destiny's Child's 'Bug a Boo' and 'Bills, Bills, Bills.' She has written for prominent artists such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys and Usher.
