His father, John Casablancas, founded Elite Model Agency Group, and his mother, Jeanette Christiansen, is a model and former Miss Denmark. After his parents' divorce, he was raised by his mother and her second husband, painter Sam Adoquei, who introduced him to the Doors, shaping his early musical taste differently from mainstream artists like Phil Collins. At Swiss boarding school Institut Le Rosey, Julian met future bandmate guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr., and at New York's Lycee Français, he met Fabrizio Moretti and Nick Valensi. He did not finish high school but earned a GED and continued music classes at Five Towns College.

The Strokes

Julian started playing with Hammond, Moretti, Valensi, and bassist Nikolai Fraiture in 1998, forming the Strokes in 1999. Their debut album Is This It (2001) was a significant success, placing them on the rock map. They followed with Room on Fire (2003) and First Impressions of Earth (2006), solidifying their status. However, later albums did not receive as much critical or commercial acclaim.

After a five-year break, the band returned with their fourth album, Angles (2011), and headlined festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. The Voidz
