Jon attended Sidwell Friends School and Skidmore College, where he played baseball before dropping out to study at the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia. Bernthal is a vocal advocate for pit bulls and serves as a spokesperson for the Animal Farm Foundation, which rescues pit bulls and promotes equal treatment for the breed. He owns three pit bulls named Boss, Venice, and Bam Bam, two of which appeared in his 2012 film "Rampart."
