U.S. House of Representatives

In 1990, Boehner challenged and defeated incumbent Congressman Buz Lukens amid a scandal, despite being lesser-known and outspent. He was re-elected to Congress 12 times. As a member of the Gang of Seven, he exposed the House banking scandal. Boehner served as House Republican Conference Chairman (1995-1999) and championed the Freedom to Farm Act. He lost the chairmanship to J.C. Watts in 1998. After George W. In the 2010 midterm elections, Republicans gained a House majority, and Boehner was unanimously selected as the Speaker of the House in November 2010, succeeding Nancy Pelosi on January 5, 2011. He narrowly won re-election as Speaker in January 2013 with 220 votes. Boehner announced his resignation from Congress on September 25, 2015, and it became official on October 31, 2015.
