Joey Lauren Adams is an American actress and director who has a net worth of $1 million. Known for her roles in the nineties, especially in Kevin Smith films, Adams starred in iconic movies like "Dazed & Confused," "Coneheads," "Sleep with Me," "Bio-Dome," "Mallrats," "Chasing Amy," "Beautiful," and "The Break-Up." On television, she has graced shows such as "Married… with Children," "Second Noah," "Veronica Mars," and "The United States of Tara." Beyond acting, she directed the award-winning feature film "Come Early Morning," and for her work in "Chasing Amy," she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress.

Early Life

Joey Lauren Adams was born on January 9, 1968, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She grew up as one of three children in a family where her father owned a lumberyard. After graduating from North Little Rock Northeast High School in the mid-1980s, she spent a year studying abroad in Australia. Upon returning to the United States, she set her sights on a career in entertainment, moving to Hollywood to pursue her dreams.

Career

Adams' career began with a small role as a child in "Exorcist II: The Heretic." However, it wasn't until the early 1990s that she formally pursued acting. In 1991, she found bigger roles, such as a guest appearance on "Married… with Children," which led to a role in its short-lived spinoff. Though she filmed a scene for "Wayne's World 2," it was ultimately cut from the film.

Her breakthrough role came in 1993 when she played Simone in Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused." The same year, she appeared in the "Saturday Night Live" spinoff "Coneheads." 1995 saw her first collaboration with director Kevin Smith in "Mallrats." Although their brief romantic relationship ended during the post-production, their professional bond remained strong, inspiring Smith to write "Chasing Amy." In 1996, she appeared as Monique in "Bio-Dome," alongside Pauly Shore.

In 1997, Adams starred in "Chasing Amy" as Alyssa Jones, a lesbian who falls for a man portrayed by Ben Affleck. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, along with the 1997 Chicago Film Critics Award and Las Vegas Film Critics Society Award for Most Promising Actress, and an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Breakthrough Performance.

She was initially cast as the lead in "Dogma" (1999) but was later replaced by Linda Fiorentino. Adams reprised her role as Alyssa Jones in three additional Kevin Smith projects: "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" (2001), "Clerks: The Lost Scene" (2004), and "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" (2019).

Outside of Kevin Smith's films, Adams starred in "A Cool, Dry Place" (1998) with Vince Vaughn and in "Big Daddy" as Adam Sandler's love interest. She also guest-starred on shows like "Veronica Mars" and took on roles in indie films, such as "In the Shadows" and "Beautiful."
