Jimmy Butler is an American professional basketball player with a net worth of $80 million. Over his career, Butler has played for the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, and Miami Heat. Drafted in 2011, Butler quickly earned the nickname "Jimmy Buckets." He is a five-time NBA All-Star, a four-time All-NBA Team honoree, and a five-time All-Defensive Team honoree. He received the NBA Most Improved Player award in 2015.
Jimmy Butler III was born on September 14, 1989, in Houston, Texas. Abandoned by his father as an infant and later kicked out by his mother at age 13, Butler stayed with various friends over the years. Despite this tumultuous start, he remains close to his parents today.
During high school, Butler's basketball talent was quickly recognized. He was later taken in by the family of Jordan Leslie, a future NFL star. By his senior year, Butler was averaging 19.9 points per game but was not heavily recruited by colleges.
Butler played one season at Tyler Junior College before transferring to Marquette University on an athletic scholarship. Over his college career, his stats improved significantly, averaging 15.7 points per game by his senior year.
In 2011, Butler entered the NBA Draft and was selected as the 30th overall pick by the Chicago Bulls. His rookie season was slow, impacted by a lockout, but he played all 82 games the following season. During the 2013-2014 season, Butler missed 15 games due to injury but still made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.
In the 2014-2015 season, Butler scored career-high points against teams like the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks. He won the NBA Most Improved Player award that season, the first player from the Bulls to do so.

Butler signed a new five-year, $95-million contract before the next season, where he continued to break records. He scored 43 points against the Detroit Pistons and 40 points in a half against the Toronto Raptors, breaking Michael Jordan’s record. Later, he scored 53 points against the Philadelphia 76ers but was sidelined by a knee injury.
After another season with the Bulls, Butler was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where more injuries led to right knee surgery. He later played for the Philadelphia 76ers for one season before signing with the Miami Heat in 2019.
In his first 10 years in the NBA, Butler earned $140 million in salary, with additional tens of millions from endorsements. In July 2019, he signed a 4-year $140 million contract, elevating his annual base salary to $32 million.
In 2017, Butler sold his Chicago home for $4.2 million, a loss from the initial $5 million listing. The residence, purchased for $4.3 million in 2015, includes 10,000 square feet of living space, six bedrooms, a 750-bottle wine cellar, a roof deck, a home theater, a game room, and a three-car garage.
In 2018, Butler purchased two condos in a new River North building, each sold for over $1 million. He listed one condo for $1.45 million, featuring three bedrooms, a private elevator entrance, and hardwood floors. The second condo, purchased for just under $2 million, was intended for his use.
In 2019, Butler listed his Pennsylvania home for $6.8 million. This 14,000 square feet home, built in 1913, sits on 7.8 acres and includes six bedrooms, a wine cellar, and a home theater.
