Early Life
Born Amethyst Amelia Kelly on June 7, 1990, in Sydney, Australia, Iggy Azalea grew up in Mullumbimby, New South Wales. Raised by her father Brendan Kelly, a painter and comic artist, and her mother Tanya, a hotel cleaner, she began rapping at 14, inspired by TLC and Left Eye Lopez. Azalea formed a group with neighborhood girls but soon quit. She dropped out of high school to pursue her musical ambitions and moved to the United States in 2006.
Iggy first stayed in Miami, then Houston, Atlanta, and finally Los Angeles. Working illegally for years, she obtained a five-year O visa in February 2013. She adopted her stage name from her dog Iggy and her street name Azalea.
