Controversies

In August 2020, Gina faced public pressure to support the Black Lives Matter movement. After calling her critics "cowards and bullies" and "liking" posts that disparaged Black Lives Matter, she was accused of being racist.

She stirred further controversy by adding "beep/bop/boop" to her Twitter profile, perceived as mocking transgender people's use of preferred gender pronouns. This led to accusations of transphobia.

In November 2020, following a series of posts mocking the COVID-19 pandemic and sharing controversial political views, Gina joined Parler, a controversial social media platform. Critics called for her firing from "The Mandalorian," using the hashtag #FireGinaCarano.

The hashtag resurfaced in February 2021 after Carano compared "hating someone for their political views" to the persecution faced by Jews during the Holocaust in an Instagram post. Subsequently, Lucasfilm announced her dismissal from future "Star Wars" projects, and she was dropped by the talent agency UTA.
