Raised in a Roman Catholic household, he had to assume a fatherly role after his dad left the family when David was just two. His mother, a librarian, raised him as a single parent. Caruso graduated from high school in Briarwood in 1974.

As a teenager, Caruso worked as a cinema usher, where he watched over 80 movies a week, fostering his passion for acting. He and his co-workers often reenacted film scenes at the theater, inspired by stars like Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, and Edward G. Robinson.

Career

Caruso's first notable appearance came in the 1980 film 'Getting Wasted,' followed by a role in 'An Officer and a Gentleman.' Throughout the 1980s, he took on supporting roles in movies like 'First Blood,' 'Blue City,' 'China Girl,' and 'Twins.'
