What is Danny Carey's Net Worth?

Danny Carey is an American drummer who has an impressive net worth of $50 million. Renowned for his powerful drumming in the Grammy Award-winning metal band, Tool, Danny Carey is considered by many to be one of the best drummers on the planet.

Early Life

Daniel Edwin "Danny" Carey was born on May 10, 1961, in Lawrence, Kansas. His fascination with rhythm began early, starting with pots and pans before receiving his first drum set at age 12. During high school, Carey balanced his love for music with sports, excelling in basketball and playing in the school jazz band. A music scholarship offer from the University of Missouri solidified his decision to pursue music professionally.

Tool

In 1986, Danny Carey moved to Los Angeles to pursue music full-time. He played with Carole King and Pygmy Love Circus as a studio drummer before crossing paths with Maynard James Keenan and Adam Jones in 1990, leading to the formation of Tool. The band’s initial lineup included Adam Jones, Maynard James Keenan, and Phil D'Amour, who was later replaced by Justin Chancellor.

Tool's debut album, "Undertow," was released in 1993 and went platinum within a year. The music video for "Prison Sex" courted controversy and was pulled from MTV. Carey's drumming became a defining element of Tool's sound. Their follow-up album, "AEnima," won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 1998, was certified 3x Platinum, and reached #1 in New Zealand and #2 in the U.S. Their third album, "Lateralus," was released in 2001, reaching #1 in the U.S., Australia, and Canada, and was certified 2x Platinum.

In 2006, Tool released their fourth album, "10,000 Days," which reached #1 in several countries. After a 13-year hiatus, Tool announced their fifth album, "Fear Inoculum," released on August 30, 2019. The band has won three Grammys, toured worldwide, and produced multiple chart-topping albums.

His collaborations span various genres, including work with the Melvins, Green Jellÿ, and Adrian Belew.

Personal Life and Real Estate

Danny Carey has a keen interest in occult subjects and metaphysics, often reflected in his drumming and Tool's music. He's also a wine and classic car collector.

Real Estate

In December 2016, Danny purchased Emilio Estevez's Malibu vineyard for $6.35 million. The property includes a custom house built by Estevez in 2008. Additionally, Carey owns a home in Los Angeles bought in 1998 for $695,000. He also bought the neighboring property in 2008 for $2.2 million, with plans to create a compound, but eventually sold the second home at a loss.
