Dan Castellaneta is a renowned American actor, voice actor, comedian, and screenwriter, boasting a net worth of $85 million. He is globally recognized for his voice work as Homer Simpson in the iconic cartoon series "The Simpsons." Beyond Homer, Dan voices numerous characters on the show, such as Grampa Simpson, Barney Gumble, Krusty the Clown, Sideshow Mel, Groundskeeper Willie, Mayor Quimby, and Hans Moleman.

Beyond "The Simpsons," Castellaneta has an impressive portfolio of voice roles in notable shows like "Futurama," "Sibs," "Darkwing Duck," "The Adventures of Dynamo Duck," "The Batman," "Back to the Future: The Animated Series," "Aladdin," "Taz-Mania," and "Hey Arnold!". He also lent his voice to the 1999 Christmas special "Olive, the Other Reindeer," winning an Annie Award for his performance. Additionally, Dan has released comedy albums and performed in a one-person show.

Dan Castellaneta Simpsons Salary

Initially, each cast member of "The Simpsons" earned $30,000 per episode until 1998. As the show's popularity soared, the voice actors demanded higher pay, leading to a dispute with Fox. Eventually, Castellaneta's salary increased to $125,000 per episode later that year. By 2004, after another negotiation, the cast's demand settled at $250,000 per episode, though they initially sought $360,000.

Dan's peak salary reached $400,000 per episode in 2008. However, this was unsustainable for Fox, which led to a 25% pay cut, reducing each principal voice actor's earnings to $300,000 per episode, equivalent to $7 million per season. Currently, they earn $400,000 per episode, totaling $9 million per season.

Early Life

Born as Daniel Louis Castellaneta on October 29, 1957, in Chicago, he grew up in River Forest and Oak Park, Illinois, in an Italian family. His early inspiration came from his father, an amateur actor, which led him to develop a knack for voice impressions. His mother encouraged his talent by enrolling him in acting classes during his teenage years.

After high school, Dan attended Northern Illinois University, majoring in art education. His participation in the university's radio show enhanced his voice acting skills. Additionally, he joined a play-writing class and took part in improv performances. Although his initial career goal was to be an art teacher, he eventually worked as a student teacher after graduation.

Early Career

Choosing to pursue acting over teaching, Dan continued taking improv classes, where he met his future wife. He then secured a job at The Second City, a prestigious improv theatre in Chicago, honing his voice acting skills throughout the 1980s while working at various radio stations.

The Simpsons

Dan's breakthrough came with a role in "The Tracey Ullman Show," leading to his iconic role in "The Simpsons." Initially featured as animated shorts on Ullman's show, the concept soon evolved into its own series, with Dan voicing Homer Simpson. His initial attempt to mimic Walter Matthau was modified to a deeper, more sustainable voice. A technique of lowering his chin and "dumbing himself down" helped Dan perfect Homer's voice.

Over the years, Dan voiced multiple characters in the show, including Krusty the Clown, Barney Gumble, and Groundskeeper Willie. His exceptional work earned him three Primetime Emmy Awards for "The Simpsons." He also received another Emmy for "Today I Am a Clown" and a special Annie Award as Homer Simpson. In 2000, Homer Simpson received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Dan has also contributed to writing several episodes of the show.

Real Estate

In 2011, Dan listed his Los Angeles home for $5.75 million. Before selling it, he purchased another home nearby for $5.7 million, described as a "glass contemporary."

In 2015, Dan bought a condo in Santa Barbara for $3.05 million, serving as a "summer retreat." The 2,689-square-foot ground-floor condo features two bedrooms, oak floors, a wood-burning fireplace, and breathtaking ocean views. He listed this condo for sale in February 2024 for $4.5 million.
