Early Life

Born Byun Baek-hyun on May 6, 1992, in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Baekhyun grew up with his older brother, Baek-beom, and attended Jungwon High School. He began his vocal training at age 11 and was the lead vocalist of the band Honsusangtae during his teenage years, winning a local music competition. Under the mentorship of Kim Hyun-woo from DickPunks, Baekhyun took piano lessons. Additionally, he trained in Hapkido, earning a dan 3 black belt. During preparations for his entrance exams for the Seoul Institute of the Arts, he was discovered by an SM Entertainment agent.

Career

Baekhyun's musical journey with Exo began in January 2012 as the ninth member, with their first EP 'Mama' and debut album 'XOXO' released the same year. Exo's following albums 'Exodus' (2015), 'Ex'Act' (2016), 'The War' (2017), 'Don't Mess Up My Tempo' (2018), and 'Obsession' (2019) continued their success, topping charts and earning multiple certifications. The group also released the Japanese album 'Countdown' in 2018, which topped Japan's Oricon Albums Chart.
