What is Andre Berto's Net Worth?

Andre Berto is a Haitian-American professional boxer with a net worth of $30 million. Known for his prowess in the ring, Berto is a two-time former welterweight champion, holding the WBC and IBF titles between 2008 and 2011, and later the WBA interim title in 2015.

Early Life

Andre Michael Berto was born on September 7, 1983, in Winter Haven, Florida. Raised in a family of Haitian immigrants with six siblings, Andre was drawn to combat sports early in life. While many of his siblings pursued kickboxing or mixed martial arts, Andre chose boxing as his path. He turned to boxing after being bullied in school, and the sport helped him navigate and avoid the pitfalls of his impoverished neighborhood.

Career

Berto first gained attention in the boxing world in 2003, winning a bronze medal at the World Championships as an amateur. He also won the National Golden Gloves in 2001 and 2003, along with the National PAL championship twice. Despite these successes, he faced a major setback while attempting to join the U.S. boxing team for the 2004 Olympics after being disqualified during trials. He then represented Haiti at the 2004 Olympics but was eliminated in the first round.

Berto turned professional in 2004, quickly earning recognition for his speed, power, and resilience. By 2008, he won his first welterweight title by defeating Miguel Rodriguez and successfully defended it against Steve Forbes and Luis Collazo. Despite a controversial win against Collazo, Berto continued to triumph over fighters like Juan Urango, Shane Mosley, Carlos Quintana, and Freddy Hernandez.

In 2011, Berto’s winning streak came to a halt when he was defeated by Victor Ortiz in a major upset. He rebounded by defeating Dejan Zavec to capture the IBF welterweight title. Although he planned a rematch with Ortiz, a positive test for a banned substance, later attributed to contamination, canceled the bout. Berto faced a series of challenges afterward, including an injured shoulder and losses to various opponents. Despite a significant defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015, he won a rematch against Ortiz in 2016 and later beat Devon Alexander in 2018.

Real Estate

In 2006, Berto purchased a home in Winter Haven, Florida, for about $340,000. The house is 2,874 square feet and located in a gated community. He attempted to sell it for $274,000 in 2017 without success. In 2016, Berto generously gifted his mother a $1 million property in the same town.

In 2017, he bought a home in Beverly Hills, California, for $6.62 million. The 5,000-square-foot home features five bedrooms, smart home technology, and a pool. Despite listing it for sale at $9 million in 2018 and reducing the price multiple times, he struggled to find a buyer, cutting the price to $7.195 million by 2020.
